Why do you need a horse grazing muzzle?
Preventing overgrazing, undesirable weight gain, laminitis disease, colic, and obesity are among the most serious diseases. Grazing and weight management are truly very important parts of prevention. Grazing throughout the day plays a critical role in equine digestive health since the constant presence of grass keeps stomach acids occupied and balanced.
With our ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle, you give your horse all the great benefits with the turnout.
This ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle is unlike the typical heavy, challenging, and “cage-like” apparatus of the past. We listened to horse owners just like you and designed this to be softer, lighter, and less confining. Constructed of a durable and pliable material that radically improves comfort, it is also soft on equine teeth and lips.
The Flexible Filly Grazing Muzzle is well-ventilated and safe, definitely in combination with the ThinLine Flexible Breakaway Halter.
Any doubt which one to choose?
What size to pick for the ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle?
Our ThinLine Grazing Muzzle for Horses is available in 3 sizes:
- Mini / Pony grazing muzzle
- Cob / Horse grazing muzzle
- Oversize / Draft horse grazing muzzle
If you want to be 100% sure the grazing muzzle fits your horse, you can do a few things before placing your order.
Make sure your halter fits well. The rule for this is about 2 fingers under the jawbone. Measure from the buckle on one side around the lips/mouth of your horse to the other buckle on the side of your halter.
Determine the size of your muzzle based on the closest average number from the table below:

- Largest size: 45.5cm
- Smallest size: 37 cm
- Average size: 41 cm

- Average size: 45.5 cm
Large;
- Largest size: 55.50 cm
- Smallest size: 44.50 cm
- Average size: 50 cm
About Grazing Muzzle Hole Sizes. Good to know!
Veterinarian recommendations for safe grazing in a grazing muzzle for Horses is a 3.5 to 4 cm grazing hole for 24/7, full-time grazing.
And 2 cm for very restricted grazing, often required for horses with metabolic issues.
The industry standard is ±3cm.
Now it is easy to work with your veterinarian and ensure horses are safely turned out to graze on any pasture.
This is the reason we have 2 grazing holes to choose from:
- 3,5 cm (Normal Restriction)
- 2,5 cm (High Restriction, Laminitis, etc.)
What will you need for your ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle?
We recommend you commit a dedicated well-fitting Break Away Turnout Halter to your horse’s muzzle. It generally takes about 10 minutes to get everything perfect the first time you install a ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle. Subsequent BreakAway Halters will take about 3 minutes.

How to Attach Your ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle?
Have a look at this short 5-step video, and you’ll get it in a blink!
Step 1
Use the enclosed paper ties or a string to discover the best holes to secure your horse muzzle to your halter. The paper ties are a temporary tool that allows you to easily adjust the fit.
Step 2
Two of the “fins” have a triangle cut out. These attach to the square (side) rings on your halter. Three fins will connect to the noseband, one in the center, and the other two fall naturally to the sides of the center. Three fins will connect to the chin band; one in the center, two naturally to the sides of the center.
Step 3
First, secure each triangle cut-out fin with one of the enclosed low-profile cable ties. Do not wrap the fins around the halter, doing so may cause rubs.
Step 4
When properly installed, the grazing muzzle should be close to but not touching the nose of the horse. If the grazing muzzle is touching the nose simply make the fins under the chin longer, this will lift the muzzle away from the nose.
Step 5
Once you are satisfied you have the correct holes aligned to the halter please remove the paper ties or string and permanently secure the horse muzzle with the included cable ties. After finding the best fit for your horse, simply trim the excess fin material just above the top hole being used.
It is fine to wait a day or two to ensure your muzzle is a comfortable distance from your horse’s mouth before trimming. The “keeper” on the cable tie is on the outside of the muzzle and the excess is facing down and trimmed close.
If you have fitted the grazing muzzle properly and the muzzle is the correct size it will work famously. If you find there is too much grazing room be sure your fins are snugly secured to your halter. The fins should not move along the noseband if it does simply pull the cable tie tighter.
Care Instructions
Very simple!
- First, you can place the horse muzzle in a net washing bag and wash it in cold water with detergent and a teaspoon of bleach.
- Second, more extended clean, stick it in a bucket with dish soap and a cap full of bleach.
What materials are used in the ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle?
The ThinLine Flexible Filly Grazing Muzzle is made from one of the most durable polymers on the planet. It is fungal and UV-resistant. It is safe, effective, and durable. That is to say, there are no “off-gassing” materials so they are safe near the nostrils. Even if accidentally ingested the polymers pass US food safety regulations.
The Horse Grazing Muzzle is ideal for slowing down speedy eaters, limiting grazing, and can help curb minor cribbing problems. Furthermore, the ThinLine Flexible Grazing Muzzle can also keep horses from chewing on leg wraps, wood, or blankets. It works extremely well with all automatic waterers and has UV protection which works much like sunscreen for those delicate noses.
Returns and Warranty Information?
ThinLine Grazing Masks have a separate warranty policy given the nature of the product.

A bit expensive but working great. It is a bit difficult to get it nicely fitting but when you get it right it is a very nice muzzle.

Great for water, does rub my boy. I brought the cheek protectors but they ripped where he rubbed so faithful vet wrap worked a treat. The nose and head piece protectors were good

Seems a lot kinder than other types. I have increased the hole size which wasn’t easy and my horse is still learning to use it. It takes a bit of time for a horse not used to a muzzle. However I have friends who use the muzzle so I was expecting this.

New style muzzle is better good as it stops them eating grass from the sides. Anti rub attachment broke when the horse rubbed its head on the fence. The big buckles either side of the head collar need to be smaller as it means they can rub it off more easily.

It seems to be very soft and flexible (as described). The fit is good and video clip giving fitting instructions was very helpful. I can’t comment on it’s durability or comfort yet as I haven’t used it very much yet.

I’m very satisfied with the ThinLine Flexible muzzle. I have the impression my horse finds it much more comfortable than the other muzzle I used. He ripped that other one in pieces … two times.
I was a bit nervous. The ThinLine muzzle is more expensive. Would it hold? Would my horse be more happy wearing it and not rip it of his head. The answer to both questions is ‘yes’! So, untill now, I’m very reliefed and happy that I bought the ThinLine Flexible Muzzle 🙂

This is the second one I’ve bought. I consider my horse deserves this light muzzle especially in hot weather. Having this muzzle has meant that she can go out in the field and be a horse and not get ill.

Complicated to fit and pony has found ways to adjust it to allow more grass ingress. Am concerned she is not drinking with it on though

Amazing muzzles for fit and comfort, bit fiddly to set up right but great customer support to help me get things right. Four stars as my first one wore out around the hole, hoping the replacement will be more robust

The Flexible Filly Muzzle is really comfortable and my horse doesn’t seem to mind wearing it at all. It was easy to fit to the field safe flexible breakaway halter which is worth the higher price. My only wish is that the muzzle of this quality and price could be ordered with a customised hole size. The one which is there is clearly too small if you want to use the muzzle for grazing. And cutting it bigger was not quite as easy as I thought it would be. Cutting it also weakened the muzzle and it has started to crack away on the edge of the hole. I am sure it would be a lot stronger if it was professionally machine cut to the size specified when a customer orders the muzzle. Or perhaps muzzles with different hole sizes could be offered. I find an oval shaped hole, 3 x 4 cm a good size for all day or night grazing. But I can see that some might want it slightly bigger and some slightly smaller. Otherwise a great and comfortable product which, when paired with the flexible breakaway halter, stays on securely. I will certainly buy an other one to replace the present one if the problem with the hole size can be solved.
